Cisco Systems ( CSCO ) has raised the price of some Catalyst 3000 , 4000 and 6000 switch family to 67 percent , according to a recent report from the World Wide Web.
The report, based on documents obtained suggest that the networking giant has launched the ' price action to increase sales of its new tools such as the Catalyst 6500 Supervisor Engine 2T , the Catalyst 4500 Supervisor 8E , the Catalyst 3850 and 3650 at the expense of some old equipment , including the Supervisor 720 Catalyst 6500 , Catalyst 3750 and 3560 switches. Price increases are scheduled to go live on November 2 , according to the report .
Cisco has recognized that it has increased the prices of older material a counterintuitive move a little " to many providers employ conventional tactics to lower technology point price as we approach the end of life . in this case , however , Cisco has done exactly the opposite , with the intention of changing gear and attractive to new customers, not only technically , but also its price.
" No price increases for new Cisco switching products that have recently been announced as the Catalyst 2960 - X , 3850 , 3650 , 4500E and 6800 with Sup 8E , which offer more functionality , much in the same price or lower , "wrote a Cisco spokesman in an e - mail to the Global Network . " There is a slight increase in prices of very small subset of the main catalysts that now have an option available to a new generation of customers. "
Network World Report 6500 indicated that catalyst Distributed Forwarding Card stumbled in price from $ 10,000 to $ 25,000 and its replacement products priced at $ 20,000.
It will be interesting to see if the Cisco plan bears fruit , not only if the supplier's price action prevents sales of old technology change , but if boost sales of their newer material . If so , if someone is looking at these things , you may see duplicate tactics elsewhere.
